Over the years Tony Eve has experimented with and learned to play
various musical instruments including bass guitar, rhythm guitar, lead
guitar, alto saxophone, clarinet and not forgetting drums, of course,
which he learnt to play when he was about 12 and was gigging at the
local Hazlett theatre in Maidstone in a variety show.
Experienced as
a songwriter, arranger and programmer, Tony has varied programming
skills working with music software applications (DAWs) such as Cubase,
ProTools, Sound Forge, Sony Acid Pro and Propeller Head's Reason to name
but a few.
His favourite bands and influences range from;
Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Chic, Average
White Band, Shalamar, Earth Wind and Fire, the Whispers, Joey Negro and
the Sunburst Band, Cool Million, Empire of the Sun, Daft Punk and Bruno
Mars......the list is endless!
Tony commented;
"I was born in November 1963, in Kenton, Middlesex.
My
father was an electric guitarist from the 60's and he performed with
the likes of Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers, Shane Fenton and the
Drifters (who were the Shadows.......before Hank Marvin joined them).
From
an early age, I was taught classical piano and received lessons on a
weekly basis, right up until the age of 11, when I was introduced to the
Hammond organ by my uncle ....... the first song I learnt, was swinging
Safari, which was a swing jazz piece....and that soon got me on the
road to becoming a keyboard player.
I went on to form various school bands and at the same time learnt to play electric guitar......taught by my dad.
My
style soon adapted to cover hard rock, country and blues with band
influences from the Beatles, the Eagles, Deep Purple through to Black
Sabbath and I played in a young band called Ultraviolet, alongside my
childhood best mate Phil Sorrell, his younger brother Steve and my big
kid sister Dawn, whereby we went on to perform at various gigs for the
likes of the local Tennis club and Rotary clubs etc.
Then the age
of 15, whilst working in a family music shop in Maidstone in Kent, I
was approached by a local band, who were looking for a keyboard player,
the band was called Motorway and they went on to be one of the most
popular working club bands in the Southeast.
I played with
Motorway for a two and half year period, playing pop chart type music
from the Eagles to Hot Chocolate, which stretched to over 120 gigs,
before leaving the band in 1980.
Having got married at 23, I had a
break from music for a few years, before re-kindling my interest in
keyboards and started song writing about 15 years ago, working alongside
my best friend (brother from another mother) Pep Serrano and other
musicians. In summer 2011, I started to write new music alongside my
other close friend Paul Copestake and also with my son Callum. Together
we formed Shilos Land, and have not looked back ever since."
